LESSONS:
LEVEL 1
If you are starting to learn the game of pickleball, our level 1 instruction is the perfect place to begin. HPC volunteer coaches work with individuals who are just learning the game of pickleball, covering basics such as how to play the game, keep score, serve, return a serve, and maintain court position. The Level 1 instruction clinic is comprised of four 90-minute classes. Within these lessons, our coach will help you get started playing pickleball!

LEVEL 2
Once you have mastered the basics of pickleball in the Level 1 clinic, you can take Level 2. In Level 2, you will learn about dinking and paddle control, third shot drops, and playing through the transition zone. Additional skills, such as serving, returning, and volley/blocking, are also covered. Level 2 is a combination of drills and coached play, taught by HPC volunteers. To participate, you must first complete the Level 1 clinic or have sufficient prior playing experience. Sign up for these sessions in Court Reserve.

LEVEL 3
For those who have completed Levels 1 and 2 and have played for a year or so at around a 3.0 level, this clinic is for you! If you are not sure what level you are playing at or want to see if the clinic fits your game contact Jim Widdows at JimW@highlandspickleball.com.
Level 3 is a four-session clinic that includes both strokes and strategy. It covers the mechanics of most pickleball strokes such as drives, drops, dinking, volleying, and serving/receiving and includes work on integrating these strokes into a strategy that will help you win more games and have more fun on the court. There will also be instruction on more advanced concepts such as dinking to set up your partner, drive vs drop strategy, how to “develop” a point, and working on various types of volleys. This clinic is taught by Jim Widdows, a certified PPR Instructor, with assistance from HPC volunteers.
To register for Level 3 clinics, you must first complete the Level 1 and Level 2 clinics, and you must commit to attending all four sessions. Email Jim Widdows at JimW@highlandspickleball.com if you have any questions. There is no charge for attending the clinic although you must be a member of the HPC.
“We play pickleball for fun. Learning new skills on the court can make pickleball even more enjoyable to play! That’s the objective of all our clinics.” Jim Widdows

This clinic will work on developing different serves with different spins, return strategies, reset volleys, drive/drop combinations, aggressive dinking to move your opponents, and more. This clinic is taught by Jim Widdows, a certified PPR Instructor, with assistance from HPC volunteers.

COACHING FOR YOUR PLAYING GROUP
In addition to the Level 1, 2, and 3 clinics, HPC volunteers are available to provide coaching for your playing group. Here’s how it works. Your group reserves a court time on Court Reserve, or perhaps you have a set group play time. Discuss with your group what you would like coaching on, such as third shot drops, blocking hard driving shots, or strategy. Contact Jim Widdows at JimW@highlandspickleball.com and request a volunteer coach. He will do his best to match a coach with your request. It’s a great way to receive targeted coaching for your playing group.
